"Blizzard" a short story by Craig Zimmerman

Molly Carson struggled to see through the swirling snow that hammered at her car window. The powerful storm seemed to come out of nowhere and an east wind threatened to push her off the road.

About mid-way through the pass several warning lights appeared on her dash panel and her car stopped dead. Molly desperately tried to re-start the car, but it was no use.

Grabbing her cell phone, Molly called the only three garages in the area and they all told her that it would be hours before they could send a truck because of the storm. After several hours of trying to keep warm, Molly decided that she needed to find some help.

The wind clawed at Molly as she stepped out of the car, but there was a light in the distance, and she began heading for it. The cold and the blowing snow were brutal, and Molly struggled through the high drifts. After several minutes of walking, Molly felt her hands and feet going numb. Finally, a cabin appeared and Molly staggered through the door.

The cabin was wonderfully warm, and Molly immediately collapsed on a couch. After several hours of needed sleep, Molly awoke and began looking for the owner of the cabin, but there was no one to be found anywhere. Feeling slightly guilty, Molly left a note with some cash for the use of the cabin.

After straightening up and checking to make sure the storm was over, Molly left the cabin and began walking back to the main road.  Feling a sudden urge Molly looked back at the cabin and was shocked to find that it was gone and there was no trace that it had ever existed.

Had it all been just a dream?
