"Breaking Blue"  by Timothy Egan is a true story of police corruption and an unsolved murder in Depression-era Spokane, Washington.

 I spent my first years in Spokane, so I know many of the places written about in the book, but even if you are not overly familiar with the inland Northwest, you will be fascinated by this story of crooked cops, gangsters, politicians, and a generation struggling to survive the brutality of the Great Depression.
