Bless the Beasts and Children

Bless the Beasts and Children by Glendon Swarthout 192 pages. Bless the Beasts and Children is about a group of misfits at a boys camp who try to save a herd of Bison that are going to be killed by hunters and in the process give themselves a sense of worth. The boys: Cotton, Teft, Shecker, Lally 1 and Lally 2 (brothers) are alienated from their parents and outcasts at the cowboy camp where their parents have sent them to become "men". Bless the Beasts and Children was first published in 1970, but its message of how we discard children and animals is still very powerful.
